Central Florida Family Fun
Dated: August 8 2016
Ah, summer...it's still here, but many Central Florida families are prepping for the coming school year. Supplies to buy, schedules to arrange, so much going on. But how about this weekend, everyone just stops for a few hours, forgets the hustle and bustle of planning and goes out and has some fun?
Where to go and what to do you ask? Well, that's what I'm here for! Whether you've got small kids or teenagers, I've got the lowdown on all the amazingly fun places to hit up this weekend before Monday rolls around and the school year begins again.
Let's face it, it's hot out. Summer is still here and the temperatures show it. So if you're looking for some indoor fun that includes air conditioning, I've got you covered. Head over to the Orlando Science Center and let your kids explore the universe. You'll find tons of amazing hands on experiences as well as visually stunning films in one of the centers three theaters. If you're seeking a creative outlet for the family, The Crayola Experience is where you need to be. Located conveniently on The Florida Mall, this immersive attraction has 26 hands-on attractions with over 70,000 square feet of adventures waiting for you! (And if you need to pick up some last minute school supplies, the mall offers you a huge selection of stores to choose from...there's even a Target right next door!) Off of International Drive you'll find the new SEA LIFE Orlando Aquarium. Enjoy interactive rockpools where you can touch a sea anemone or a starfish! Participate in the interactive dive sessions and ask divers questions about your favorite ocean creatures. And make sure to visit the brand new Turtle Fest area that educates everyone on these amazing creatures and how to conserve their habitat for future generations. In this same complex you'll find The Orlando Eye, an opportunity to view the city as you've never seen it. Make sure to check out The Orlando Eye website prior to heading over there; there are some combination tickets available that combine it along with SEA LIFE Orlando and a few other attractions.
Head over to the east coast and visit two of my favorite places in Central Florida; The Brevard Zoo and Kennedy Space Center. The Brevard Zoo is absolutely amazing, there's just so much to do and see. Have you ever wanted to feed a giraffe? You can do that here. Wanted to go kayaking through some beautiful Florida wetlands, you can do that here as well. Want to meet a rhino up close and personal? Yeap, you can here! A visit to the zoo can definitely be a full day adventure. Just remember, you're going to be outside and this is Florida...so take precautions, bring a hat, sunscreen, etc. There's plenty of water and drinks available for purchase on site. And they're open rain...or shine! Kennedy Space Center brings out the astronaut in all of us. If you've ever wondered what it was like to actually be in the space shuttle while it was launched, you need to make it a point to take advantage of The Space Shuttle Launch Experience. Not crazy about feeling those G forces but really curious as to what a shuttle looks like? Head on over to the Space Shuttle Atlantis Experience featuring state-of-the-art multimedia presentations as well as over 60 interactive exhibits. Settle into a comfortable tour bus and view some of NASA's most iconic landmarks on the Kennedy Space Center Bus Tour. KSC is also open rain or shine, most of the exhibits are indoors so inclement weather (or heat) won't have any bearing on your experience here.
These are just a small sampling of all the amazing things there are to do and see here in Central Florida! If you'd like to explore other activities in the area, then take a look at Visit Orlando for an extensive list of things to do, restaurants, places to stay, etc. If you're interested in finding out more about another part of our great state, then check out Visit Florida.
You don't live here but wish you did? Or you'd love to own a vacation home in the area? We can help! Our team specializes in finding the perfect properties for residents and those who just want to be residents when the weather is cooler! Visit Abby Nelson's Great Homes Group to see what's available...and remember, just because you don't see it listed doesn't mean we can't find it for you!
Wishing everyone a great rest of the summer and to those of you getting your kids ready to head back to school...remember, breathe in, breathe out...that first week will be done before you know it!
